Inwood Music Circle
Brand Identity

A folk music ensemble with roots in the Inwood neighborhood of New York City required a logo to establish a presence in the musical community and inspire new members to join the group. The logo needed to be inspiring, beautiful, and communicate the ethos of the ensemble. The logo also needed to communicate that the group is well-established and thereby convey a sense of gravitas, while simultaneously radiating a welcoming and friendly vibe.

LT Design created a logo that represents the singers in the Inwood Music Circle group and simultaneously references the unique features of the Inwood neighborhood. The logo is composed of green leaves arranged in a circle to represent both the gathering of individual singers and also the forests and parks for which the neighborhood is known. The central veins in each leaf point towards the center of the circle, and the negative space creates a bright star which represents the voices radiating outwards, evoking a spiritual ambience. The serif typeface Adobe Garamond references the organic characteristics of nature and of the practice of singing; the tapers and the slight variations in each letterform visually represent the unique characteristics of each individual voice. The symmetry of the logo communicates the special role that each member plays: They are all equal and distinct. The green color evokes the forests of Inwood and the peaceful feeling of being surrounded by nature, while the variation of green shades gives the logo texture and depth. The white background keeps the logo fresh, inviting, friendly, and positive. The logo evokes community, togetherness, unity, and balance.
